Milkfed to distribute 500 quintals of sweets in Himachal
Himachal Milkfed plans sale of 500 quintals of festive sweets
Himachal Pradesh’s government-run enterprise, Milkfed, will sell 500 quintals of sweets made from pure clarified butter this Diwali. For many years, Milkfed has been providing sweets during the festival season as a safer alternative to adulterated sweets available in the market.
This year, Milkfed has placed the order for the sweets with Chandigarh Sweets Shop, located in Industrial Area Phase 1. The sweet shop will use the pure clarified butter supplied by Milkfed to prepare the sweets. These sweets will be available at Milkfed counters across the state starting Wednesday and will continue to be sold until Diwali eve. A total of 30 counters have been opened in different locations to make the sweets easily accessible to people.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, until 2019, Milkfed used to make its own sweets. However, after the pandemic, the organization started sourcing sweets from third-party sweet shops. Despite this change, Milkfed ensures that quality remains high. Sandeep Sharma, the marketing manager of Milkfed, said that special attention is being given to quality this year. A dedicated team has been formed to inspect samples of sweets before they are distributed.
He also mentioned that the manufacturing process is being monitored under CCTV surveillance, and Milkfed has access to these recordings to ensure safety and quality. This step is part of Milkfed’s ongoing effort to maintain trust among consumers and provide sweets that are pure, safe, and tasty.
Sweets available across the state
The sweets will be sold at or below market rates, making them affordable for everyone. In Shimla, two counters have been set up at the Secretariat, while one counter each has been opened in Sanjauli, a Shimla suburb, and the district court circle. These are part of the 30 counters established across the state.
Milkfed will offer a variety of sweets, including milk cakes, doda burfi, cashew burfi, soan papdi, coconut burfi, gram flour laddus, and more. By selling a wide range of sweets, Milkfed ensures that people can enjoy traditional Diwali treats without worrying about quality.
This initiative has been appreciated by both local residents and visitors, as it provides safe and tasty sweets during the festive season. The counters are conveniently located, allowing people to purchase sweets while visiting offices, markets, or government buildings.

Milkfed’s role in supporting farmers and the economy
Milkfed was established in Himachal Pradesh in 1990 and began operations in 1993. The organization procures milk from cattle farmers through various societies across the state. This system not only provides fresh milk for Milkfed’s products but also strengthens the rural economy. By supporting dairy farmers, Milkfed helps improve their income and ensures a steady supply of milk for production.
The dairy plants under Milkfed produce a variety of products, including ghee, butter, cheese, yogurt, and khoya. These products are then sold in the market through Milkfed’s counters and retail network. Over the years, Milkfed has become a trusted brand for high-quality dairy products and sweets, especially during festivals.
Milkfed’s cooperation with local farmers and sweet shops has created a strong supply chain. By sourcing milk from farmers and outsourcing sweet production to reliable sweet shops, Milkfed ensures both quality and quantity. The collaboration with Chandigarh Sweets Shop this year is an example of how Milkfed maintains high standards while meeting increased demand during festivals.
Commitment to quality and affordability
One of Milkfed’s main priorities has always been quality. The organization has taken measures to inspect sweets, monitor production, and provide transparency to consumers. CCTV surveillance at the sweet shop ensures that the process is recorded and can be checked if needed. This transparency reassures consumers about the purity and hygiene of the sweets.
Affordability is another important factor. By keeping the sweets at or below market rates, Milkfed allows people from different income groups to celebrate Diwali with traditional treats. This initiative ensures that sweets remain accessible and not limited to only those who can afford expensive options.
Milkfed’s focus on quality, affordability, and transparency has helped it build a strong reputation over the years. People have come to rely on Milkfed for safe and delicious sweets during Diwali and other festivals. By providing sweets that meet high standards, Milkfed continues to promote both consumer safety and the local economy.
This Diwali, Milkfed’s sale of 500 quintals of clarified butter sweets highlights its commitment to quality, safety, and affordability. With 30 counters across the state and a range of traditional sweets, residents of Himachal Pradesh can enjoy pure and tasty treats while supporting local farmers and the dairy industry. Milkfed’s initiative shows how government enterprises can combine business, quality assurance, and social responsibility to benefit both consumers and producers.
